you say tomayto, I say tomahto

As is the case in everything I do on my life, there are certain people that must immediately question my motives and actions. These people have been doing this to me pretty much my entire life ( so see if you can figure out who they are). That is one of the reasons for starting this blog, because I get to say my piece completely and THEN deal with everyone, instead of having my opinions shot down before they are completely expressed (as in " my opinions are facts, yours are wrong")

So I feel I must comment on the comments that I have been getting concerning the spelling of the good Doctors name. The spelling used is Greunkern for a variety of reasons, which I shall go into now.

1. A little bit of research ( on good old google) will show that when you put in grEUnkern, as I did originally, it asks if you would like to search grUEnkern, but then , I noticed, it still lists sites the correspond to the much loved little green legume ( or bean, or seed, don't comment, I don't really care what it is), so I figured I was safe. However, additional research, by putting in the alternative spelling, and seeing how many sites it brought up, shows that there are 122,000 site hits for grUEnkern, and only 107 for grEUnkern. So I can't lord it over the naysayers that I am correct because "its on the internet, so it must be true and correct". Therefore I go on.

1A. See above, the spelling used herein ( pompous, pompous) is allowable under the google universe, you can look it up yourself.

2. Language is flexible, and as the word is probably German, we can use any variety in English

3. Like all names, there can be differences in spellings that connote the same word, and if it is a name, it does not need to conform to a rigid standard, i.e. Smith, Smyth, Smythe, Schmidt, all indicating the same root word.

4. I like this spelling,

5. There is nothing wrong with being unique, especially on the net, and I don't think someone is going to say , " Hey, I wonder who is blogging under the name Gruenkern, I MUST search RIGHT NOW for it or I will expire!" ( is ICEBERGCARWASH a word??? do people comment that it is REALLY two words??!? I think not)

6. It gives you people something to comment on,

7. and the real reason, I set up the name with this spelling without really thinking about it ( beforehand) or doing the the above mentioned research, and I believe to change it would be too complicated at this point, although I have taken the other blog name as well, with a link to this one ( www.Doctorgruenkern.blogspot.com ) just to make sure that when I hit it big, someone doesn't steal it to reap all the benefits of my work.

So now you have it.

Enjoy

Doktor Greenkern

Heeeey which string do I puuuuuull?

AND NOW, we present an additional blogger for your reading pleasure..... ( and because we need to keep the hits coming...)

I never thought I would make common cause with the Democratic leadership of the congress but when they are right (despite their possible motivation) they are right. I fully agree with Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid in requesting that the treasury secretary insist that companies which accept the federal bailout money limit excessive executive compensation and golden parachutes.

I would push them out of the plane without a parachute altogether, a fitting punishment for destroying shareholder equity with grandiose unreasonable risk taking. I would go a step further, and require that no dividends be paid to the common shareholders in any quarter where a profit was not made, and that the dividend in no case exceed the previous quarter's profit.

In the last 3 quarters ending 31 July 08, Citibank has lost about 18 billion dollars or roughly $3.30 per share. So why are they paying their stockholders $.64 a share? If they used the money for their business they would need about $3.5 billion less from the federal government. Should the taxpayers risk their money on Citibank's troubled assets while Citibank gives away money it has?

Bring on the 'berries, and don't forget the peanut butter

I hate waiting on lines. Or more correctly, I hated waiting on lines (and at lights, for that matter, and would go five miles out of my way to avoid a 30 second light.). However, since the advent of the PDA, and more importantly, the blackberry, I no longer mind as much. This is actually being written in a Costco, on my 'Berry, as I wait behind Mildred, who is buying 7,000 gallons of water and 400 boxes of mac and cheese. I however, am purchasing a (yes, just one) coat.

So with the ability to now work, play, text, email and compose blog entries, I don't mind the lines any longer.

Gotta go, my turn to check out. However, I still hate lights.

doctor greunkern

I am sure that by now, you are all saying to yourselves, " so who is this mysterious Dr. Greunkern? and why isn't he wearing any pants???"

Well, the Doctor is a cross between professional schooling and a self appointed professorship without portfolio. The Greunkern is both a cultural reference, as well as an homage to a pen name used before.

So see if you can figure out the first and middle names of the good doctor. This will let me know who has been paying attention over the years.

I see that I have created a monster, ("HELP, I've started blogging and I can't STOP!!) but I have all this inner pent up creative juice that has not had an outlet until now, except as a commenter of other people's work. hopefully, things will settle down as I clean out the backlog of writings that have to come out. ( and then, of course, will come the Great American Novel)

Let's make the right decision, and a statement

As Election season comes to a close, I feel compelled to weigh in on the issues of the day. First of all, I must admit that I do not read most of the drivel out there, since I have made up my mind as to who to vote for, and I don't need any additional information.

That being said, I find that the insidious use of language and judicious use of sound bites that the media chooses to unleash on the public most disturbing. Living in the greater New York area, I am subject to the news stations that I believe are part of the Communist Broadcasting Service. The way that they will describe a McCain or Palin comment ( "McCain ranted about this", or "Palin whined about that" ) as opposed to an Obama comment ( "Senator Obama, being the true statesman and great American that he is, graciously stated") is disgraceful, and just goes to show that the news is not impartial, and is in fact, scripted and should be considered no different that reality TV.

Speaking of television, the news there is no better, airing sound bites that make every statement Obama makes, in the little snippets they play, sound like a great orator, while airing asides and jokes that McCain might make, and leaving out anything of substance from his speeches. This is the news BEING the story, not reporting it.

I think it is time for Americans to fight back ( cue the patriotic music here) and make a statement that we are smarter than the media give us credit for, and can be trusted to make a decision if we have all the facts. So I urge everyone out there to vote for the candidate with the experience to lead, John McCain.

Welcome

Well, I have finally made it into this century. I have decided to Blog. After being the first poster on another blog, ( hence the sign-off, FP) a title I will covet almost as much as my son's, I have been bitten by the bug.

Actually, the desire to Blog hit when I read the posts on that blog, and having to give props where due, that would be the fine blog known as icebergcarwash. http://www.icebergcarwash.blogspot.com/. I realized that I could vent, ruminate on things important to me and get things out of my system, and of course, ultimately become rich and famous (more on this later) . I also realized that blogging can be good for the soul and the disposition, as I have noticed other bloggers who are calmer once they began blogging, and their complexions have never looked better either.

I am sure you are all wondering about the name, however, in true advertising and commercial fashion, I shall tease it and tell you that I will discuss it in a further post, so please stay tuned ( DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL!!!)
